Sadly, these interviews mostly confirmed what most bright people I know suspected: convoy "supporters" who aren't outright white supremacists are either clueless, ignorant, and/or antivax-conspiracy nuts—or at best were suckered by convoy leader's fake claims of "legit" concerns. @CANADALAND/1495761478015721481

      These interviews aren't intended as a representative sample, but they sure are telling in what they share. (I heard common talking points from the social media echo chamber in all three interviews, yes, even the last guy.)

        And I dunno that it can be framed as "media failed these people" so much as, "Social media has offered a lot of people a fantasy land of easy answers and specific, concrete 'bad guys'; this attracts some people who want to feel less powerless, scared, hopeless, and confused."

          UItimately, many have just given up on facts, complexity, and uncertainty. It's definitely not new to the pandemic, but recent stress, anxiety, and burnout have accelerated/broadened it. (Everywhere, not just in Canada.) What do do about it, I have no idea, though.
