Has anyone (in Korea) found a better way of getting people to stop sending them .hwp format files? I tell people, "I can't open them," or "I prefer not to work in .hwp" and people try, but they usually revert to sending me files in HWP format after a month anyway.

Hell, I've seen companies and universities soliciting applications from abroad and providing the application form as a .hwp file. Seriously, how many international applicants do you think you'll get when they need to open an obscure, local, proprietary format nobody else uses?

It's not *just* a Korea thing, obviously: habits die hard when it comes to file formats. I occasionally screwed up file formats when people were transitioning between .doc and .docx and different editors preferred one or the other. It's an easy mistake to make.

The problem in Korea, though, is that there's this weird, non-interoperable, *proprietary* file format here that nobody else on Earth uses, but EVERYONE here uses, and few people here seem to realize nobody else on Earth uses (or can access) it.

Well, and also, that software is AWFUL. But... that's a different rant altogether.
