@mcjulie Yeah, absolutely. I think most belief systems with any significant, definitive supernatural component *have* to be ultimately authoritarian on some level, don't they? Hard to assert ultimate truth about the hidden, invisible reality otherwise.Permalink On twitter.com

@mcjulie Which is why it's so hard to root out the authoritarians even from very mainstream, conciliatory religions: being raised Catholic, the tension between, "We're all about love," and "We live in a cosmology where if you disobey sky daddy, you will burn forever," was palpable.On twitter.com

@mcjulie And it was hard to not notice that *everyone* speaking from a position of authority was a man dressed in a weird, deeply counter-cultural uniform... something you also see in pretty much every authoritarian institution.Permalink On twitter.com
