@SFRuminations @JustinHowe I would assume also, like the cantus firmus trick, it's a kind of "ballsy" move, too: you demonstrate mastery of the stuff that's been done and then take it one step more. Like, because it's hard enough to master what's been done before in the first place, that was valued too.
