@GeekinKorea I once assigned for students to go to a certain independent Englsih bookstore in Seoul and do the, "Hey, do you have any books about X?" and have a conversation leading to them actually purchasing a book. The assignment was to TALK to the clerk and get a recommendation, IIRC.

@GeekinKorea (This was a bookstore in Itaewon catering to expats, so they were supposed to ask about the book in English.) It was supposed to be the first step of an essay assignment: they'd read the book and write a review of it.

@GeekinKorea But students soon said they'd been "caught" (?!?!?) and were told to tell their classmates not to come. I was like, "What? I sent them paying customers and they got mad?"

@GeekinKorea Sure enough, there was a sign on the wall next time I visited, basically barring students from coming there as part of an assignment. I just shook my head and struck the shop off my list of places to send business. (Like bulk orders of course textbooks and so on.)
