@downhill1004 @slimjinpyo @downhill1004 I know you think you're being helpful but you shouldn't assume that every non-Korean is ignorant of Korean culture. I've lived here for almost two decades. I already know everything you said... and find it rude of you to assume I'm ignorant of it.

@downhill1004 @slimjinpyo As I say, I know you mean well, but you should try get it out of your head that Korean culture is so mysterious that no non-Korean can understand it. That's not it... it's just that, like every culture, it has things that intensely annoy people who didn't grow up with it.

@downhill1004 @slimjinpyo In any case, this is less about "personal space" and more about "closeness dependency": I understand Koreans having smaller personal space, walking closer or sitting closer than, say, North Americans find comfortable. That's not what I'm talking about.

@downhill1004 @slimjinpyo I'm talking about how some people unnecessarily choose to sit right beside a complete stranger even when there's plenty of room in a place. Empty restaurant, but they sit at the next table. Empty bathroom, but they use the urinal right beside you.

@downhill1004 @slimjinpyo Empty cinema: books a ticket beside one of the only seats that *is* booked. I mean, maybe he was hoping a pretty girl was in the seat? Fine... but I'm not a pretty girl. And, like... empty cinema. He could sit anywhere, but still insisted on sitting in his booked seat.

@downhill1004 @slimjinpyo So it's a few things at once that annoyed me. His choosing to book *that* seat when he could have booked any and left me, a stranger, to have some space and silence. His insistence on keeping the booking. He also was on his phone as soon as he sat down.

@downhill1004 @slimjinpyo Also, @downhill1004, I don't think you should lump all Asian people together. I know Koreans who find this stuff annoying; they're used to it and don't complain, but dislike it. And... I've traveled a lot, all over Asia. It has only really happened to me often in Korea. *shrug*
