        @mcjulie Hmm. I perhaps shouldn't generalize, but my experience of the Catholic version of that kind of ecumenism or universalism is that it's largely dependent on compartmentalization: when interfaith interfacing (interfaithing?) one disavows any absolute knowledge of the "truth"—

      @mcjulie —in a way that one generally doesn't do when just engaged in non-explicitly-interfaith dialog. Like: when making nice with Buddhists, there are many roads to the truth. When alone with one's own faith-sharers, Buddhism is obviously wrong in practically every respect.

    @mcjulie I mean, the making nice is better than "Slaughter the heathens!" but it's more like knowing when to keep your opinions to oneself & focus on shared political and social interests, than a bone-deep commitment to spiritual uncertainty. But that may be mainly in Catholic ecumenism.
