    @IsasV *shrug* Because entitlement? (This kind of ridiculousness is actually bog-standard here—students email late in semester explaining they didn't attend because they have a job. If they email at the end of semester? They get an F. Start of semester? We work something out, maybe.)

      @IsasV Mid-semester? Well... it's a pandemic, and I have provisions for students who cannot attend live. (Their max grade is capped, as a compromise out of fairness for other students, and recognition that online live class is stupid and it all should be prerecorded anyway.)

        @IsasV (As in, last semester they'd have been fine as long as they kept up with the lecture video cycle. I'm not punishing people because admin decided to force us to do everything less efficiently in long "live" sessions.)

          @IsasV I'll also say it's harder to hold students to a standard when most of the time, if you do, admin immediately starts pressuring you to make an exception. Not every time, but really often. "His case is special." "Why?" "Because he got a good job." "My students could have gotten..."
