@roundthebend58 @AddyPottle @WordsandGuitar You're sidestepping my point with insults and rudeness. It's infantile & ignorant. (But a common response when you point out to white people, "Hey, you're being kinda ignorant about history and its lingering effects in our society.")

@roundthebend58 @AddyPottle @WordsandGuitar For example, not everyone in Canadian society is descended from settlers. Some are descended from people who got massively screwed over by the European settlement of North America. And my point is precisely that lots of people *don't* consider this.

@roundthebend58 @AddyPottle @WordsandGuitar At this point, you're clearly making a huge effort to avoid acknowledging history, and trying to shame and insult anyone who says, "Yeah, maybe we shouldn't have a national holiday that celebrates the many benefits of colonialism for white folks." Not a very good look.

@roundthebend58 @AddyPottle @WordsandGuitar Ah, the bravery of the white Canadian lady who blocks people who challenge her on the nonsense she spews online.

@roundthebend58 @AddyPottle @WordsandGuitar Her last response is telling, though: "recognizing the past" doesn't necessarily need to mean "steeped in guilt" but equating the two definitely is a handy way to justify refusing to bother.

@roundthebend58 @AddyPottle @WordsandGuitar FWIW I was about to say: I'm white, Canadian, but live abroad & don't celebrate Thanksgiving. I also never needed to: I can celebrate the blessings in my life w/o being prompted by a government (much less a holiday that retroactively whitewashes history), and do so regularly.
