@GeekinKorea Ah, that explains a lot. But... I mean, even so I am very curious how an actual audit would go. (As I say, I've had plenty of students who complained that some/many of their profs habitually read the textbook instead of lecturing. Seen it for myself occasionally, even.)

@GeekinKorea Probably another factor: *some* universities are using lecture length as a metric for whether people are "doing their work." For certain kinds of classes, you're going to have good instructors struggling: straight lecture is not how we teach TEFL, after all!

@GeekinKorea (For example, I usually expand on the grammar I'm teaching anyway—go beyond just the grammar rules to talk about language history/development, or discuss exceptions more closely, or whatever—but even I feel pressure to pad lectures out and fill time normally spent on activities.)
