  1. So Lovecraft seems to have really arrived in Korea. One student from a few semesters ago brought up playing Call of Cthulhu online, and I caught a group of four students in one of my classes discussing whether to use "Lovecraft" as the basis for a question on a mock exam.

I paused and said, "Did you say Lovecraft?" They confirmed it. One knew it because he's what sound like Actual play logs online. Another said he picked it up via media somewhere or other. One guy said he'd read it. The odd man out had no idea what we were talking about.

Things have really changed: I think ten years ago, you'd never have randomly found 3 people in an average class who'd heard of ol' HPL. I think not long ago there was a Korean Lovecraftian anthology (IIRC) and lots (all?) of HPL's work was retranslated earlier this decade.

(And yes, "randomly": I actually assigned groups randomly today in that class, specifically to split people up from their usual deskmates.)
