    1. Usually I dig Howlin’ Wolf (The Real Folk Blues, etc.) but ten songs in, “The Back Door Wolf” is basically “MRA Whining: The Album.” I mean, bemoaning unfaithful lovers is hallowed blues tradition, but he at least mixed things up a bit more on other albums. This one, not so much.

    I first realized Howlin’ Wolf was genius when I heard, “Baby, I’m built for comfort, not for speed...” exuberant & joyful & unapologetic. I guess by the 70s he was less popular and more... bitter?

      The exceptions are “Coon on the Moon” (about, yeah, social advances and the frigging space program: he actually predicts. Black US President, sarcastically) and the again-timely Watergate Blues. Both caustic, but in a funny, smart, defiant... non-whiney way.
