    @JustinHowe Yeah, I've long noticed that a rise in any specific form of xenophobic sentiment here seems to boost all xenophobic sentiment. (The "gusts of popular feeling that pass for public opinion" aren't choosy, to steal a line from Isabella Bird Bishop.)

        @JustinHowe Which makes me think, "Ah, maybe that's why my class was so unabashedly anti-English the other day." Got REAL resentful for a while when someone suggested "English" as a paragraph topic and I asked, "So, what kind of controlling idea would work for this topic?"
