@JustinHowe I’ll try add some other recommendations to this when I have a few minutes, but: the new edition of THE MOUNTAIN WITCH is on Kickstarter now. kickstarter.com/projects/timfire/the-mountain-witch-samurai-blood-opera-in-mythical also I hear Fiasco 2E is coming this year... and @jmstar’s The Skeletons could work too.

@JustinHowe Let's see, beyond that: Well, Paranoia is a pretty expectations-breaking game. You learn the party is not really a party (hardcore PVP), that the stated mission isn't the real mission, and that using your special feats/abilities (mutations, say) leads to trouble. Can't "win"!

@JustinHowe Played in a High Programmers game online on Friday last (Friday mornings, if you're interested) on Discord, mediated by a custom-built app that mde the game really sing. You REALLY can't win High Programmers. I slipped into trying and it did me NO good. :)

@JustinHowe Ten Candles is another one you might be able to use. One of the conceits is that your characters WILL die at the end. Pretty open-ended, shifting narration duties, but still has a GM. I could also loan you WIZARDS AREN'T GENTLEMEN or WHAT HO WORLD! which are PbtA but card-based.

@JustinHowe (Which makes choosing mechanics a little easier.) Or Dread—the one that uses the Jenga mechanic for horror games. I've had good fun with that a few times, as long as there's buy-in. If someone's like, "Eh, I'll just pull whatever block, I don't care..." it kills the mood.
